A Brief description of the ANTiFRAGILE project at yoyofriends

The Concept

ANTiFRAGILE started as a titanium evolution of our stainless steel SlipStream. We loved the SlipStream's look and feel, so we set out to reimagine it in Grade 5 titanium — widening it from 45.5mm to 49mm to handle modern tricks while staying accessible to casual players.

The Development

Our first prototype nailed the aesthetic but had two issues: slow acceleration and a short 6mm axle that was easy to misplace and prone to threading problems. We went back to the drawing board.

For the second prototype, we redesigned the center cup with a protruding profile (similar to our Overclock and Tachyon series) to fit a longer 8mm axle and add center weight for better acceleration — without sacrificing stability. After fine-tuning the weight distribution for improved horizontal play, the final design was approved.

The Material

The body is machined from crystallized Grade 5 titanium (Ti-6Al-4V), heat-treated at 1,200°C. This process creates a frosted, crystalline surface with a subtle "ice-crack" effect under light. Because the pattern forms naturally, every ANTiFRAGILE looks slightly different.

The Name

ANTiFRAGILE hides "Ti" (titanium) in its letters, nodding to the material and the yoyo's upgraded durability. It's also inspired by the song/album by LE SSERAFIM — a favorite Kpop group of our team.

A yoyo that blends performance, aesthetics, and collectability into one.
